The Practice

The surgery occupies all four floors of a Grade B-listed Georgian townhouse in the centre of Ayr. The property was constructed in 1814 (the year before the Battle of Waterloo) for one James Gray Esquire, Surgeon, of Ayr. Over the years parts of the building have seen a variety of uses including a hairdresser’s business and a health food shop as well as residential accommodation.
The rooms to the left of the entrance hallway became a doctor’s surgery again in 1959. As the practice grew, it gradually expanded into the rest of the building until in January 1998 the partnership bought out the last remaining flat. This purchase provided the catalyst for an ambitious programme of expansion and alterations internally to form a modern and well equipped General Practice.

AWARDS
The practice achieved the Practice Accreditation award from the Royal College of General Practitioners for the second time in February 2004 and we achieved Training Practice Accreditation again in March 2007. We have been involved in the further training of GP Registrars since 1985 and we find the experience stimulating and rewarding. We are grateful to our patients for their involvement and co-operation in the GP Registrars’ training process.

STAFF
The administrative team gives essential support to the clinicians to enable the practice to run smoothly, and ensure our patients receive the best possible care at all times. The team provides the link between patients and clinicians, making sure all information is accurate, up to date and available when needed. This is not always an easy task and is one which benefits from a degree of understanding at times. Your tolerance is appreciated.

Our staff are trained and qualified for their particular role working within practice protocols and guidelines. If any difficulties arise with any member of the practice team please contact the Business Manager.

STAFF TRAINING
The practice closes from 12.30pm to 1.30pm fortnightly on Thursdays to allow for staff training.

NEWLY REGISTERED PATIENTS
Patients wishing to register with our practice will require an appointment with either the practice nurse or a doctor. You will need to complete a New Patient Questionnaire before your appointment and you will need to provide photographic proof of identity. Your registration appointment allows us to assess your medical needs and to record accurately any medication you require. It is an ideal opportunity for new patients to become familiar with the practice.

SUGGESTION BOX
We are always keen to receive constructive comments and suggestions for improving the service to our patients. Please make use of the “Suggestion Box” located in the main entrance, email , or speak directly to us.

ACCESS FOR DISABLED PATIENTS
We have wheelchair ramps available for use at the entrance to the building (please ring the doorbell for assistance) and handrails have been fitted at either side of the front entrance doorway (two steps). Once inside the building our consulting rooms are located on the ground floor and first floor of the building. There is a passenger lift between floors and we have a toilet for disabled patients on the ground floor.
