following working day.
Many local pharmacies
offer a prescription collection service. You will need to sign up with
your chosen pharmacy if you choose to use this service and you must let
our prescription line operator know which pharmacy will be collecting
prescriptions for you. We cannot guarantee a 24 hour service if you have
arranged for a pharmacy collection. You should check with the pharmacy
for their collection schedules.
Same day urgent prescriptions can normally be collected between 5.00pm
and 5.25pm – you may be asked to wait. Urgent same day requests
place an extra burden on our service so we ask that you try to plan ahead
and use the routine re-order system whenever possible.
If you no longer require any of your repeat prescription medicines please
inform the prescription line operator who will remove the item from your
repeat medication list.
Patients’ repeat
medications are regularly checked and you will be asked from time to time
to attend for a review of your treatment.
Our repeat prescription service is designed to help you manage your medication
needs. Stockpiling of medication is unnecessary, wasteful of valuable
resources and can be dangerous. We have an ‘early warning’
system to identify patients who are requesting medication more frequently
than necessary.
If you are entitled to free prescriptions, many simple medicines can now
be prescribed free directly from your pharmacist without a prescription.
Please speak to your pharmacist about this service.
Prescription Pre-payment Certificates (PPCs)
If you have to pay for more than 5 prescription items in 4 months or 14
prescription items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a Prescription
Pre-payment Certificate (PPC). From 1st April 2008 the costs for a PPC are: £17.00 (4 months) and £48.00 (12 months). For how to apply for a PPC, please ask at Reception for an information sheet or access the Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA) Website at www.ppa.org.uk
If you have a PPC that you got before April 2008 and is still valid you will be able to claim a partial refund to take account of the reduced charges that came into effect on 1st April 2008. Claim Forms are available from your local pharmacy
.
